Eat Well & Be Healthy Series

How many New Year’s Resolutions have you made about losing weight and getting fit? Learn to undertand food in a completely different way in this 4-week healthy food and eating series. Discover what foods are healthiest to eat, how to eat, and how to have a healthy relationship with food.

You must take week one in order to take any of the other three classes.

Eat Well – Week One
Learn why diets do not work, why someone gains weight, the truth about nutritional myths, where foods accumulate in the body (Why are you a “pear” or an “apple”) and healthy eating habits.
You must take week one in order to take any of the other three classes.

Eat Well – Week Two
You will learn about cravings. What causes them and what they mean? You will also learn how to eat to satisfy your cravings in a healthy way.

Eat Well – Week Three
Learn what foods to eat and not to eat for true health. Understand how food affects your body and how cooking methods affect food and which methods to use and not to use. Learn how to menu plan.

Eat Well – Week Four
We will discuss how to eat out and make healthy choices. Learn how to choose how and what to eat at a party or during the holidays. What should you do in a “food” emergency? Learn what to look for when grocery shopping and how you can change your view of food. We will cover food labels and what they mean (Organic….natural, etc.)

Eat Well - Be Well Cooking Series
You’ve just learned what to eat for a healthier you. Now learn how to prepare and cook the whole grains, vegetables and beans that we’ve talked about. So if you have just taken the Eat Well - Be Well Series or have taken these classes in a previous semester, this series will teach you the cooking methods and foods to make dishes that will improve your health. Learn how to make delicious, satisfying dishes with cooking methods you will have for a lifetime!
Enroll in either week or section T06 for both weeks.

Eat Well Cooking – Week One
In this class, you will learn how to blanch, steam, quick and long sauté, make whole grain dishes, miso soup, and what to do with seitan and tempeh.

Eat Well Cooking – Week Two
You don’t have to take the first cooking class to take the second class. Your instructor will demonstrate how to make classic healthy dishes such as noodles & broth, vegetable tempura, pressed salad, lentils with deep-fried bread, vegetable nori rolls and fruit compote.
XPED 038 C08 $40 plus $10 payable to instructor for food supplies
